Hey girls,
Montreal is awesome! Being a girl who lives just on the other side of the border from Quebec, you would think I’d visit Montreal more often, but I never have the time. Now I’m going to make sure I make the time! Montreal is one of the best cities in Canada- it’s full of culture, life, fun, and good wine (all of which are always on my list of things I want more of). Honestly, Montreal was my first choice in terms of where to do my undergraduate degree, but instead I chose Ottawa- practically it’s neighbour! I took the greyhound over to Kirkland to meet up with some good friends. We ended up going to Jack Astors (and having a crayon fight on the table):
(and Trevor clearly lost!) After dinner, we decided to play Scrabble back at the house. We even baked brownies and had ice cream!
Note: do not mix brownies and icecream with beer. Also, do not mix brownies and icecream and beer with internets:
Because seriously terrible scrabble boards may result. Which is funny and so so wrong at the same time. The next morning, after four confusing phone calls to my friend downtown and a trip on the Montreal transit system later, my friend Kaeleigh and I went for sushi. I can’t be held responsible for the following food porn. It was too delicious!

I am a hopeless sushi addict. I’m constantly looking for excuses to go have sushi with friend, colleagues, and family! In Toronto especially there’s an All You Can Eat Sushi craze that’s been going around, and it’s making its way up to Ottawa and Montreal. It’s the most delicious pandemic you can think of. After sushi, we had some shopping and camera fun! Simons is a really great store in downtowm Montreal. They’re a department store that loves fashion and bright colours just like Dawn and myself!
On my way home I got lost on the subway. But I did discover Montreal’s steepest escalator, and the most interest shoes I’ve yet to see on my travels. They were half silk ballerina slippers and half flats/sandals. So pretty! Like so many women, shoes are an obsession of mine- in the best way possible. I like strange and irregular shoes just as much as I love a pair of killer heels or Chuck Taylors in exciting colours. I almost always wear Chucks for everyday running around, so much so that some people are shocked to find my enormous collection of heels! I even have a pair of black patent bottle opener heels. (Even if they are from Hot Topic. They’re still awesome!
All in all, my weekend in Montreal is just another addition to some of the best times of my life. It’s the kind of city in which you feel like you can go anywhere, do anything, and have a great time doing it. Like a second home with some of my best friends in the mix!
So, Starseekers: Where’s your second home?
Meru
